Virgin America heads to DFW but Will American Airlines Rewards Keep DFW Fliers Loyal?

November 30, 2010 | Posted in: Airline News,Multimedia | 0 comments

Starting Dec. 1, Virgin America begins nonstop flights Los Angeles to Dallas-Ft. Worth – with service from San Francisco to DFW starting Dec. 6. Look for me, Rick Seaney on that inaugural flight tomorrow.

It should be fun: cushy leather seats, plugs in every armrest, and of course, that signature mood lighting. I’ll have a full report, so please watch this space for my interview with Virgin America CEO David Cush. I also expect to talk to the legendary Richard Branson.

What’s American Airlines response to VA’s entry into this popular business/leisure route? It’s already underway. Take a look at this special video below featuring commentary from yours truly.

As my friends at NBC in Dallas-Ft. Worth put it, American Airlines launched a new promotion to match fares and double miles for AAdvantage Members heading to Los Angeles and San Francisco.” AA is also giving away prizes starting Wednesday (one-day lounge passes, vouchers, frequent flier miles, etc.).

I like this – and you should too because generally, more hub competition means cheaper fares and that’s always good for passengers.

Will business travelers stay loyal to AA or jump on the Virgin America bandwagon? Let’s see what VA has to say when I fly them Dec. 1.
