VIDEO: Comic says, How Bad is Flying Today? Not as Bad as You Think!

May 17, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Ask Rick,Multimedia,Passengers | 0 comments

I was laughing at comedian Louis CK on Conan the other night (and if you haven’t seen him before, you’re in for a treat).

But after I was done laughing, I found myself really thinking about his amazing take on our “age-of-miracles”. When you really put it all in perspective, just how bad is commercial aviation these days? Not too bad, really.

See what you think after watching this hilarious video. It’s about 4 minutes long – but it’s worth it.

Just for Fun: Your Flying Car is Ready, Mr. Jetson

March 19, 2009 | Posted in: Airline News,Multimedia,Travel Tips | 0 comments

Remember the flying cars that were all over the Jetsons TV show?

When you consider the Jetsons debuted way back in 1962 – frankly, I thought we’d all be driving/flying these things ourselves by now.

Well now, there IS a flying car – from the Massachusetts-based Terrafugia company. Not sure how practical it is, though – it costs about $200,000 – plus, where are you going to take-off and land the thing? But – see for yourself…

Rapping Southwest Flight Attendant Gets Raves from Passengers

March 16, 2009 | Posted in: Ask Rick,Multimedia,Southwest | 0 comments

This is just terrific.

Southwest flight attendant David Holmes noticed that not everyone was paying attention when he delivered the standard safety speech at the beginning of his flights.

So he decided to get their attention. By rapping the speech.

It is really good – imaginative rhymes and a catchy rhythm – with audience participation! CNN did a story on it that you can view here – and it’s all over YouTube.

However, the talents of this Southwest rapper don’t really come as a surprise to us here at FareCompare – one of our colleagues had his own delightful musical experience with Southwest, when he was serenaded by some female flight attendants.

MUST SEE VIDEO: 80′s Rap Video Features Southwest Employees

January 14, 2009 | Posted in: Multimedia,Southwest | 0 comments

If you like bad dancing and worse singing, not to mention mullets and lots of shoulder pads, this 80′s era video is for you!

It features a seemingly endless cast of Southwest pilots, ground crew, skycaps, and secretaries – plus former CEO Herb Kelleher in the pivotal role of “Big Daddio” – all performing a rap song about their duties for the airline.

Clearly this was some sort of internal promotional video – and clearly, Southwest was a fun company to work for. I hear that hasn’t changed.

A hat tip to Ben at Consumerist, for unearthing this gem. Must be seen to be believed.

Warning: 9 minutes, I only got 3 minutes in before losing the will to live :-)

Holiday Travel Tip: Car-Renters, Use that Cell Phone

November 7, 2008 | Posted in: Multimedia,Tips and Tricks | 0 comments

You never know where you’re going to find a good travel tip.

This one is from a woman who’s been dispensing tips for a life time – I refer of course, to Heloise – the proprietor of “Hints from Heloise”. One of her readers says, use your cell phone when renting a car:

“Take a few quick photos of your rental car, the license plate and the brand/model logo. It might help you prove the car’s condition upon returning it.” — Hints from Heloise

It’ll also make it easier to find the vehicle in a crowded parking lot.

Now let me add this – take some pictures of any bags you check, too - just in case they come out looking like something from that old “Ape vs. American Tourister” commercial (here’s the video).

This will also come in handy should your bag get lost – take a few pictures of your bag before you check it – this will be helpful later when you’re filling out the paperwork, trying desperately to remember exactly what your missing bag looked like.

A hat tip to our sister blog, StandardUprightPosition.com.

Fun Video – Global Air Traffic

September 25, 2008 | Posted in: Airline News,Multimedia | 1 comment

I thought this would make a nice “mental health break” – it’s a video simulation of flights around the world over a 24 hour period.

Apparently this is the work of a school of engineering in Switzerland, and it’s taken the internet by storm.

Enjoy.
